Space = Money when it comes to your Cottrell Autotransport

East Coast Dealer Exclusive: Combination fuel and hydraulic tank of Western Star Lowmax

That is a mouthful but its very simple. We specified our new Western Stars with a combination tank to give the carhauler more space in the third position. If the hydraulic tank is separate if can constrict the movement of the track making it harder to fill the carrier. It also adds an additional 100 pounds to  the carhaulers load. This design cuts your weight and gives you more space. To a carhauler space is money.

    Combination fuel tank/ hydraulic tank
    system

The old style puts the tank behind the 3rd position and constricts the
    deck and adds weight

Without you gain 2 more inches of flexibility which can be critical in maximizing your load

    The Cottrell Gator Trailer

The push to have cheap fuel is changing how we look at energy. I read that fuel made up of alligator fat is a possible source for future vehicles. Sounds good to me. I don’t know if Cottrell, Peterbilt, or Western Star are going to adapt a gator fueled truck or car hauler. Think for a second though, wouldn’t a special model of a Cottrell Trailer based around the gator fuel be neat. Cottrell could give it one of those cool series name. Just like there is NextGen series, there would be the Gator Series. Maybe the number could be the  GXS-7 or something cool like that. It could be offered ain three or four different shades of green. I wouldn’t hold your breath on this idea, and I don’t that I am going to risk being hauled off by orderlies in white pants by pitching it to Mike Cottrell (I think that’s the founders name… I know I got the Cottrell part right) but it is a fun idea to think about.

Versatile High Side Cottrell Carhauler Trailer

Cottrell’s model CS-12LTA/B high side carhauler is a classic design and one of the most popular autotransports on the road. This car carrier is ideal for multiple stops and unloads but is also rugged enough for longer trips. This car hauler trailer works with a majority of Cottrell headrack. I have some more information and pictures below of the CS-12LTB. The "B" model of this carhauler offers longer decks as well as a carrying capacity of between 18,600 pounds and 19,600 pounds.

The New Fuel Economy Standards and the Cottrell Carhauler

Ears perk up when the government does anything that will cost us more money. For the Cottrell Carhauler Owner this is also the case. An autotransport trailer is , by the very nature of its design, a non aerodynamic vehicle. The need for a Cottrell car carrier to offer maximum loading flexibility, durability, and safety put fuel efficient at the bottom of the list of benefits. Regardless of this, improvements in the drive train have reduced fuel consumption for todays Cottrell Autohauler. So far so good.

Here is where question marks go up. The new standards will add a cost of over $6,000 to a new vehicle. This is of course on top of the $9,000 for the DEF tank. So where going to be in for $15,000. The government claims that the fuel savings over the life of the vehicle will be over $70,000. That is good with one key stipulation. If the government continues to build in more cost to the price of a new vehicle with endless regulations that $70,000 of fuel savings will quickly evaporate…

Protect Your Cottrell Trailer from Hijackers!

Pulled and adapted from Transport Topics online
    2011

One of the most well displayed and valuable transportation cargo is a fully loaded Cottrell Carhauler. Hijackers and chop shops would love the opportunity to separate you and your Cottrell car hauler from its special cargo. Some things are not avoidable but there are things you can do to reduce your risk and make it more difficult for professional criminals to victimize you. Here are some tips that were adapted from Transport Topics online.

    * Lock your Cottrell cargo at all times. While a loaded Cottrell Carhauler is a big obvious target, well strapped loads can be deterrents for hijackers.

    * Keep your Cottrell autotransport in sight at all times. Some crooks have been audacious enough to just back a cab under the trailer and take it.

    * Be Careful not to announce when or where your Cottrell autotransport will be showing up on the CB, or to strangers.

    * Be ready for any possible criminal scheme-even a broken headlight or a fender bender can be backdrops for hijackers to steal your cargo.

    * Check your Cottrell car carrier for any distinguishing marks or signs. Hijackers use this to help mark targets for their crews.

I know what a lot of people are thinking, a loaded Cottrell is about 80 tons and stands out like a sore thumb. Yes it is harder for a crook to steal an autotransport but they are getting more and more audacious. I read recently how thieves stole multiple tractor trailer loads of tomatoes in broad daylight and still haven’t been caught. How far could they have possibly gotten with TONS of ripe perishing tomatoes in hot trailers…but they did..

Cottrell Carhauler Trailer Feature: The Drop Belly

One feature of your Cottrell Carhauler Trailer that is going to be of value is the Drop Belly. To the carhauler faithful the drop belly allows the autotransport to squeeze in an extra vehicle by shifting the lower deck, or the belly, down. Not just does it help the car carrier get an extra vehicle on the trailer, it can often times be a place to put a larger vehicle. A larger vehicle of course means more money and that is important when you factor in the risk and costs that todays autohauler takes to do his or her job.

Carhauer Beats 2nd Degree Murder Charge...but still gets manslaughter

    Costa convicted of involuntary manslaughter

The carhauler (truck) driver is found not guilty of second-degree murder

2011 By Jason Wells and Daniel Siegal, LA Times

The truck driver involved in the fatal 2009 collision off the Angeles Crest Highway was convicted today of two counts of vehicular manslaughter, but the jury found him not guilty of the more serious murder charges.
PASADENA, CA - JULY 28: Marcos Costa (C) list...carhauler gets manslaughter conviction
Marcos Costa, whose big rig slammed into Palmdale resident Angel Posca, 58, and his 12-year-old daughter, Angelina, after his truck lost its brakes, sending the car-hauler through the intersection at Foothill Boulevard in La CaƱada Flintridge and into a bookstore.

Several other cars were hit, and the jury also convicted Costa on three counts of reckless driving causing an injury.
