FBI Shows Details Of Trucking Scam

English: The Seal of the United States Federal...
I had briefly mentioned an incident before about a group of Canadian companies that were using sophisticated schemes to rip off Americans. I saw an article that showed the specific steps they were using to do this. According to the FBI:

  1.  The Canadian companies send over phony     credentials like references, credit, and even tax documents to set up a line of credit.

  2. The Canadian business places an order which will  be delivered by a third party.

  3. The materials are trucked into Canada.

  4. The Canadian company does not pay.

Remember, in the Photoshop world any document can be faked. You need to know everything you can about your customers and creditors because it is so easy to fake it. Do not be fooled by pretty pictures or unverified documents because a lot of con artists want you to get sucked into the air of authority they try to emulate. Go to the original article(the link is below) for the names of companies doing this or F.B.I. information and resources.

The List of Things To Do When Operating A Cottrell Trailer

A Cottrell Trailer Is One Of The Most Technologically Endowed Trailers In The Trucking Industry....
New Cottrell Trailer for Sale Click Picture for infomation

The Cottrell trailer is a combination of multiple systems which all must be applied with skill and precision

To operate the Cottrell trailer the average Cottrell owners must:

  • Understand the hydraulics
  • Understand the tie down systems
  • Understand the electrical
  • Understand how to use the decks for maximum loading
  • Deal with one of the most fuel intensive vehicles on the market
  • Operate virtually mistake free since the cargo cannot have any damage
  • Maintain the powertrain
  • Maintain the frame and prevent rust from destroying it
  • Understand 50 different groups of state traffic regulations
  • Deal with congested traffic day after day
  • Deal with inclement weather day after day
  • Deal with Federal government regulation day after day
and the list goes on

So where am I going with this

Now you have one more thing to worry about when operating your Cottrell Trailer.. WIND

I just read how wind gusts knocked over a tractor trailer even though it was not a tornado. When you plan
your routes for weather be sure you know the wind patterns as you move through the continental United States. The lack of aerodynamics on the trailer could easily catch the full energy of a wind gust

Good News For Cottrell Carhaulers....Really

As carhaulers and Cottrell Trailer owners we are a very select group of specialized truckers. We do face many of the same issues that the rest of the trucking industry faces along with a host of things unique to us. Regardless we bombarded day after day with negative news. So, in lieu of that I am constantly scouring the transportation news for good news. Its been harder and harder to find it lately but it is there.

Truck orders are up 12%

Hah! This is undeniable evidence that someone, somewhere, is buying something from someone for some reason. How about that for a definition of capitalism. All kidding aside trucks are selling. In our office the rows of once full inventory are filled with gaps where carhauler trailers once sat before they were sold. This is good. This is like a blip on the economies heart monitor. After three years of economic upheaval we are still making it.

So how am I doing..isn’t it nice to hear good news?

Why Not Have a Pink Cottrell Trailer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

There are a lot of charities. Even with this fact, The bright pink banners of the Susan Komen foundation stand out. I have seen tow trucks in bright pink. I have seen gigantic football players with pink shoes and pink towels strutting their passive masculinity on national television. As I am thrilled out the outpouring of support,I cannot help but think that the Cottrell Carhauler might be getting left out.

Think about the ad potential of a 80 ton carhauler sporting hot pink as it rolls down the road to deliver our cars. NO ONE will be able to miss out. The pink Cottrell car carrier will get the message out quick.

Unfortunately I could not find out so I did a mock up what a fictional Susan B. Komen carhauler might look like.

Cottrell Chains For Car Haulers

Its a temptation every Cottrell owner has faced, pay for authentic Cottrell authorized parts or save a few dollars on imitations. I won't lie to you, I have been in the same boat on other products. The problem with Cottrell Carhauling parts is the authentic parts are designed to withstand certain levels of weight and force. They have been tested to work with Cottrell products. This testing and designation of basic quality standards protects the carhauler from product failure.

Chains are an area where you don't ever want to substitute. There are differences in the strength of off brand imported chains. The strength of imitation chains has been proven to be weaker. This puts the carhauler and their Cottrell car carrier at risk of injury or worse. Buy authentic Cottrell parts from an authorized Cottrell dealer.

Cominbation Fuel and Hydraulic Tank Saves Weight and Space

East Coast Dealer Standard:

Combination fuel and hydraulic tank on Western Star Lowmax/ Cottrell Combination
To a carhauler space = money. The less weight and more flexibility you can have on your trailer, the more you will probably make. East Coast Truck and Trailer was the first Cottrell dealer to use this specification on a Western Star Lowmax/ Cottrell Trailer. By combining the hydraulic tank and the fuel tank your Cottrell is 100 pounds lighter and you have 2 more inches of flexibility in the third position. This could be the difference between being able to load a more profitable vehicle or making sure your trailer is not overweight on the road.

The hydraulic tank can restrict the ramps in the 3rd position

If you remove the hydraulic tank you have 2 to 3 more inches of flexibility in
the third position

East Coast Truck and Trailer will
combine hydraulic tank with the fuel tank on our Western Star Lowmax to reduce the trucks weight by 100 lbs

Protect Your Cottrell Trailer from Hijackers!

Pulled and adapted from Transport Topics online
2011

One of the most well displayed and valuable transportation cargo is a fully loaded Cottrell Carhauler. Hijackers and chop shops would love the opportunity to separate you and your Cottrell car hauler from its special cargo. Some things are not avoidable but there are things you can do to reduce your risk and make it more difficult for professional criminals to victimize you. Here are some tips that were adapted from Transport Topics online.

* Lock your Cottrell cargo at all times. While a loaded Cottrell Carhauler is a big obvious target, well strapped loads can be deterrents for hijackers.

* Keep your Cottrell autotransport in sight at all times. Some crooks have been audacious enough to just back a cab under the trailer and take it.

* Be Careful not to announce when or where your Cottrell autotransport will be showing up on the CB, or to strangers.

* Be ready for any possible criminal scheme-even a broken headlight or a fender bender can be backdrops for hijackers to steal your cargo.

* Check your Cottrell car carrier for any distinguishing marks or signs. Hijackers use this to help mark targets for their crews.

I know what a lot of people are thinking, a loaded Cottrell is about 80 tons and stands out like a sore thumb. Yes it is harder for a crook to steal an autotransport but they are getting more and more audacious. I read recently how thieves stole multiple tractor trailer loads of tomatoes in broad daylight and still haven’t been caught. How far could they have possibly gotten with TONS of ripe perishing tomatoes in hot trailers…but they did..

Sloped Hood= More visibility for your Cottrell Trailer

Peterbilt truckThe Peterbilt 388 sloped hood means more visibility for your Cottrell CarhaulerThere are few things as big as a Cottrell Carhauler Trailer. Seeing every angle of the road is tenuous at best. Any improvement in vision will help the autohauler move across the highways more safely. The Peterbilt 388 sloped hood is one such improvement. A simple sloping of the hood gives the carhauler greater vision which make every autotransport that much safer.

Protect your greatest business investment: Your Cottrell Trailer

With the recent Minnesota Car Carrier fire we are reminded of one area that can be overlooked in autotransport care and maintenance: The tires. Based on an article by RSI Insurance Brokers, combustion around the tires can start with nothing more than non moving hot air coming from the brakers which are probably not working properly. While many Cottrell Trailers have automatic tire inflation devices in the trailer wheels, they are not offered in the cab wheels towards the front. There is no greater investment to a carhauler than a Cottrell Trailer and anything that can extend the life of the trailer is important. There are accidents that are unforseeable, but here are some strategies to mitigate risk with your Cottrell carhauler.

1-Check your Cottrell tires as often as you can which usually will be at stopovers on the road
2-See a certified Cottrell dealer for regular inspections of your brakes and tires
3-Before any trip make sure the tires are inflated to the exact standards recommended for your Cottrell Trailer

As simple as these may seem, there are autohaulers who push the limit. In a 25 ton carhauler trailer heat can build up quicker than you think under the stress of the loadM

Peterbilt 388 offers power with less emissions to todays Carhauler

A huge benefit of the Peterbilt 388 Cummins ISX15 Engine to the Cottrell carhauler is the incredible fuel economy. By placing precise fuel injection, the Cummins ISX15 engine uses fuel very efficiently. This mix of technology and power will save you at the pump, save the environment, and put more money from your trucking, carhauling, or car transport profits in your pocket. Its a great complement to the quality of the Cottrell Trailer and has been successfully paired many times.

The best Cottrell Trailer is a SAFE Cottrell Trailer

Japanese road sign. This is a template of warn...With the recent trial of carhauler Marcus Costa over a runaway trailer on the steep San Gabriel Mountains I think it is time to review some Steep Driving best practices for the army of Cottrell Drivers on the road.

A few Cautionary thoughts when using your Cottrell trailer

1.     Your Cottrell Trailer is a huge investment so pre plan your routes to avoid things that can hurt it
2.     Even a technical marvel like a Cottrell Trailer has been designed with government safety standards in mind so pay attention to incline warning signs when using your Cottrell Trailers to know what your trailer and the road can handle
